Are you ready for the arrival of Christmas?
Receive these words with the coming of Christmas. Keep them in your heart. Speak these words to others.
βBy God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to lead us to the path of peace.β
Luke 1:78-79, NLT
These words were spoken as the first Christmas approached. These are the words of a father, spoken during the celebration of the birth of his son. Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, spoke these words to everyone present.
To believe
We live in a time when the world longs for these words to be spoken and believed as Christmas approaches:
βBecause of God’s tender mercy,β Christmas expresses God’s tender mercy for you and me. Receive His tender mercy for you today. Let it flow into your life.
ββ¦the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us,β Jesus comes, angels light the sky and creation rejoices in the arrival of Christmas. Something very good is happening.
ββ¦to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,β So many are living in difficult times where life is difficult and it is not easy to bear the burden of it. God sends His Son, Jesus, to give light where we think all is lost. The arrival of Christmas reminds us that there is so much more than the deep challenges of the moment. Jesus saves, heals, forgives, and restores us with a new purpose and meaning to live for.
ββ¦and to lead us to the path of peace.β Our bones long for peace. The coming of Christmas invites us to a path of peace through Jesus Christ. As Christmas approaches, take in the peace that Christ offers.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
Thanks for the coming of Christmas. Thank You for the words a father spoke at the birth of his son. Please receive these words as our prayer today.
βBy God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to lead us to the path of peace.β
We pray this in the name of the one who is the center of Christmas, Jesus Christ, Your Son,
Amen
