Wise: My writing routine

As a writer, I’ve always been intrigued by the routines and tools of others.

Over time, I’ve developed a reliable writing routine. Here are my top 3 tips:

  1. Write down article ideas as you go through life. As I go through the day, I pay close attention to article ideas. I see everything as potential writing material. Whether it’s an overheard conversation in a café or a thought that arises during a workout.
  2. Write down the title. I always start with the title in mind. I make these notes in the app I use to write, Ulysses. I want to avoid friction. I don’t want to use different types of apps.
  3. Give yourself details. Sometimes I come back to my writing app to see article ideas that only have a title. But I can’t remember what it was about. So you need to give yourself more details. I simply write a sentence or two about what the article will be about.

Writing is a process. Your writing evolves as you evolve.

In my new article I discuss the remaining 8 tips for building a good writing routine.

Rich: Starting a Writing Habit

Writing is one of the most powerful tools that can transform your life. It can be an outlet for your thoughts and emotions, leading to personal and professional growth.

But how do you start a writing habit that sticks?

The best strategy is the simplest: set the bar very low.

Forget writing 1000 words or a full page in your journal. You don’t have to write an entire blog post, chapter, or journal entry at once.

Write a few words about simple things, like what time you woke up and how you feel. Once you break that first barrier, the words will flow more easily.

In my other new article, I’ll show you 9 more tips for starting (and maintaining) a writing habit.

One interesting thing

There’s a quote from French-born writer Anaïs Nin that I think illustrates one of the greatest benefits of writing:

“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and afterwards.”

Writing helps us understand our thoughts. It gives meaning to our experiences.

Take part in the 5-day Financial Freedom Challenge

I’ve created a 5-day email course that you can do alone or with a group. It’s called the Financial Freedom Challenge. And it will help you take control of your finances.

Most people try to calculate their way out of bad finances. But money problems are not rational. They are emotional. Manage your emotions well, and you will manage your finances better.

How to take on the challenge of financial freedom

You can participate in the challenge for free. For five days you will receive a short email with a small challenge that inspires you to improve your relationship with money.

I highly recommend you share it with your friends/family so you can go through the program together. It helps bring perspective. And it’s more fun that way.
