Why I love this easy croffle recipe

  • Croissant waffles: That’s a croffel! This croissant and waffle mix means that in every bite you get the flaky layers of a croissant, but the crispy outside of a waffle!
  • Simple croffel recipe: All you need is some sugar and crescent rolls, puff pastry dough, pre-made croissant dough, or frozen mini croissants from Trader Joe’s.
  • Trends: You don’t have to travel for a cafe-style Korean treat, it’s an easy hack to make croffles at home using croissants and a waffle maker.
  • Versatile: Fill them or top them, serve them as a quick breakfast or dessert and if you don’t have a waffle iron, you can also make croffles with a panini press!

Croffle fillings and toppings

  • Sweet fillings: Try Nutella, peanut butter or mascarpone with thinly sliced fruit. Chocolate chips, banana slices or jam also work as a sweet snack!
  • Savory croffle fillings: Try brie, prosciutto, ham and cheese, cream cheese, scrambled eggs, beans and cheese for a taco version or even diced pepperoni and cheese!
  • Croffels Toppings: Take these croissant waffles to the next level with whipped cream, honey, a drizzle of maple syrup, strawberries or powdered sugar.
  • Dessert: Add some chocolate sauce and ice cream!

How to make croffels

  • Preparation: Roll out your unbaked croissant dough or crescent roll dough.
  • Add fillings: Add fillings if desired, being careful not to overcrowd the croffle. Carefully roll up each piece of triangular dough.
  • Cook: Place the croissants in the preheated waffle iron. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Top: Get as fancy as you want with the toppings you want. Favorites include syrup, fresh fruit and powdered sugar.

Storage instructions

  • Store: Store leftovers in a sealed, airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To freeze: First flash freeze croffles on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Place in a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Heat up: Reheat in a toaster oven or microwave until warm. If frozen, thaw first in the refrigerator overnight.
