Sweet, spicy and finger-licking good – this hot honey wings recipe is easier to make than you think!

Crispy wings are mixed with sticky hot honey and cooked until golden brown. These sweet and spicy appetizers are perfect for game day – or any occasion that calls for chicken wings!

Pick up is not necessary, they are as is crunchy and sweet like Arby’s boneless hot honey wings or Wingstop’s hot honey wings!

Ingredients and variations

Chicken – Use split wings for this recipe. This means that the wing tips have been removed. Boneless chicken wings are also an option.

Sauce – The sauce is made from honey combined with siracha, cider vinegar and cayenne pepper. Simply combine the ingredients and mix with the wings.

Spices – The wings are rubbed or mixed with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Some mustard powder can also be added for extra flavor.

How to make honey hot wings

  1. Season the wings (according to the recipe below).
  2. Prepare the wings in the oven or Airfryer.
  3. Mix with the hot honey sauce and fry until brown and sticky.

Nonstick foil or parchment paper is recommended in the air fryer basket or to line your baking sheet.

The hot honey sauce can become sticky and difficult to clean!

Crispy wings

  • Pat the wings dry with paper towels so you get crispy chicken wings.
  • Do not overcrowd the Airfryer or baking tray. Cook them in batches.
  • Use parchment paper to make cleaning easy, but only after the air fryer has been preheated.
  • Before serving, place all cooked wings in the Airfryer basket and heat for 3 minutes.

Honey Hotwings

Sweet, sticky, and slightly spicy, these honey hot wings are the ultimate game day appetizer!

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Pat the wings dry.

  • In a large bowl, toss the wings with olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

  • Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 18 minutes.

  • After 18 minutes, remove the wings from the air fryer and mix them with hot honey.

  • Place a piece of baking paper or non-stick foil on the bottom of the air fryer basket. Add the sauced wings back to the air fryer basket and fry for another 2 to 3 minutes.

  • Let rest for a few minutes before serving (the sauce will be very hot immediately after cooking). Serve with extra hot honey for dipping.

Oven-baked version: Mix the wings with 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder and spices. Refrigerate uncovered for 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours).
Toss the wings with olive oil and place in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet. Cook in a 425°F oven for 25 minutes, turning the wings halfway through. Mix with hot honey and place in the oven for another 10 minutes until golden brown and sticky.

To combine Hot Honey:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (or hot sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)

Add more or less herbs to taste.
