15 Ways to Gain a Fresh Perspective

One of the most valuable skills you can have is the ability to think clearly and rationally – to process information, show good judgment, engage in intelligent problem solving and make smart decisions. But this skill is sometimes elusive. Here are 15 ways to gain a new perspective.

Get a fresh perspective

Protect yourself from bad information. Research information carefully. You are what you eat And the information you process. Your thoughts, opinions and beliefs are at stake.

Get a dose of reality. Seek the truth. Go outside your comfort zone. Embrace vigorous discussions and debates. Challenge your opinion.

See the big picture. Don’t get into the details. One puzzle piece cannot reveal the whole picture. Take a step back and gain a new perspective.

Be objective. Encourage diverse points of view. See things from all angles. Compare and contrast without bias. Judge an idea based on its merits.

Control your mentality. You can’t control everything. But you can control your reaction to things.

Stay calm. Take a deep breath. Don’t let your emotions get the better of you. Think clearly and gain a fresh perspective.

Don’t be afraid. Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Fear and worry are often worse than the final outcome.

See problems for what they are. Problems don’t last forever. If it doesn’t matter in a year or two, it’s not worth worrying about.

Look ahead. Look forward to. Leave the past behind you.

Think for yourself. Form your own thoughts and opinions. Follow your instincts. Why do you think others know better?

Be open to other ideas. Broaden your horizon. Four different backgrounds, experiences and ideas. Challenging the status quo.

Get yourself in the right frame of mind. See the positive side. If you think you can notyou will not. You get what you expect.

To set priorities. Focus on things that matter. Not everything is equally important.

Measure progress. Are you dealing with a malfunction? Take the time to think and reflect. Being busy is not the same as being productive.

Be introspective. Own your life. Look in the mirror. Be honest with yourself. Those who like to find fault in others rarely find fault in themselves.
